Hortiki Plants, a leader in eco-friendly and educational gardening kits, is thrilled to announce the expansion of its popular gardening activity series with four new STEAM-focused Kids Cards. Designed to bring hands-on fun to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), these new activity cards empower educators, families, and kids to explore creative and engaging learning opportunities through gardening.
New Activities for STEAM Exploration
Expanding on the success of the Lettuce Card—where kids learn about hydroponics through a DIY growing system—Hortiki Plants introduces four new cards:
- Microgreens & Technology: Explore phototropism, the way plants grow in response to light, using flashlights to simulate artificial light.
- Peas & Engineering: Build a trellis to support pea plants, mirroring how engineers design structures for support.
- Wheatgrass & Math: Measure and graph wheatgrass growth, bringing real-world data to life.
- Beet Art & Reducing Waste: Create natural dyes from beets while learning sustainability through reducing food waste.
These cards can be used individually or as part of a week-long series, making them perfect for winter break camps, Earth Week, or summer programming. Suggested for grades 2-4, each activity stands alone, allowing for flexible scheduling that works for all students.

Kid-Friendly Recipes with Health and Safety in Mind
In a groundbreaking addition, Hortiki Plants has designed all recipes in this activity series to be diabetic- and allergy-friendly, addressing the needs of millions of children in the U.S.
- Diabetic-Friendly Recipes: Each recipe includes clearly labeled carbohydrate counts, making meal planning easier for families managing diabetes. This is a crucial feature, as calculating carbs can be especially challenging with many recipes.
- Allergy-Friendly Options: Recipes include a detailed list of allergens, such as nuts, dairy, or gluten, allowing parents and educators to see at a glance which recipes are safe for their kids.
Approximately 283,000 U.S. children and teens under age 20 are living with diabetes, and 1 in 13 children is impacted by food allergies. These recipes ensure accessibility and inclusivity while teaching kids how to grow and prepare healthy, plant-based meals.
Recipes include fun, simple dishes like wheatgrass juice popsicles and beet hummus dip, with MyPlate connections that encourage balanced eating and introduce essential nutrients to support healthy growth, immune function, and sustained energy.
