Local black-owned business Hortiki Plants to Sponsor 13th Annual DC State Fair
Washington, DC: Hortiki Plants, a local ecommerce retailer of organic garden kits, will be a vendor and sponsor at the 13th Annual DC State Fair, September 11, 2022 10am-5pm at the Gateway DC at Saint Elizabeth's East.
Hortiki Plants' sponsorship of the State Fair enhances emerging urban agriculture in the District of Columbia.
According to Hortiki Plants Founder, Dr. Victoria LeBeaux, “urban agriculture can increase access to fresh, healthy produce, empower communities, and create green jobs. We are excited to sponsor the DC State Fair and support the District’s growing agricultural footprint” .
With the support of Hortiki Plants, the Fair will provide a vibrant sample of DC’s agricultural landscape through its annual Agricultural Contests. These fun contests award ribbons (and bragging rights) to local producers of the Funkiest looking vegetable or fruit, Best Heirloom Tomato, Best Honey, Best Brown Eggs and more.
"There's really no limit to what you can grow, even in an urban environment," explains Dr. LeBeaux, whose company provides indoor garden kits for apartment gardeners. "I'm excited about the State Fair because people can see first hand that a vibrant local food system is not only possible for DC, it's happening now!".
