Hortiki Plants Celebrates Community, Fun, and “Funky” Produce at the 16th Annual DC State Fair

Hortiki Plants organic kids garden kits setup outdoors at the DC state fair

Washington, DC — September 8, 2025 — Hortiki Plants proudly participated in the 16th Annual DC State Fair on September 6, 2025, at Bryant Street NE. The event showcased the District’s agricultural, culinary, and artistic talent while bringing families and community members together for a day of food, fun, and creativity.

As both a sponsor and exhibitor, Hortiki deepened its connection with the local community and celebrated sustainable food practices. The company sponsored the Funikest Vegetable/Fruit Contest to advance its advocacy for reducing food waste. By celebrating “funky” or “imperfect” produce, Hortiki underscored that all fruits and vegetables are nutritious, delicious, and valuable, regardless of appearance.

This year’s Fair marked a full-circle moment for Hortiki, which first launched at the DC State Fair in 2017. Returning with its new retail-ready kids packaging, the company received enthusiastic feedback from attendees. Located in the Kids Zone, Hortiki connected with dozens of families and educators, who encouraged the company to continue investing in children’s gardening and STEM enrichment programs.

In addition to supporting the Funikest Contest, Hortiki actively participated in the Fair’s Zero Waste Program, helping minimize trash, reduce single-use plastics, and divert materials from landfills. These efforts reflect Hortiki’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

“The DC State Fair has always been a launchpad for our growth and a reminder of why we do this work,” said Dr. Victoria LeBeaux, Founder of Hortiki Plants. “We are proud to continue showing up for our community, celebrating sustainability, and inspiring the next generation of gardeners.”
